Smiggin Holes is one of four areas within the Perisher ski resort, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Smiggin Holes is widely regarded as one of the best beginners’ ski resorts on the Australian snowfields with lots of green and blue runs. It is less crowded compared to Thredbo or Perisher.
Smiggin Holes has excellent terrain for our beginner guests and families with a bowl where everyone It is our family’s favorite spot in the Snowy Mountains as it’s ideal for young children to learn how to ski.
How to get there?
Smiggin Holes is only 2km away from Perisher Valley and about a 5-hour drive from Sydney and a 7-hour drive from Melbourne. Driving is the easiest way to get here. If you drive up there, you have to pay the National Park entry fee into Kosciuszko National Park of $29 per day for each vehicle. All 2WD vehicles must carry snow chains in winter, between June and October long weekends. The roads are not so difficult to drive but still, you should pay attention and drive carefully as they can be icy roads.
Free buses run between Perisher Valley and Smiggin Holes every 15 minutes from 7.30am to 6pm daily.
There are two main car parks, one at the main entrance and another one right next to the snowfields.
